Colorado PERA Recognized for Achievement in Financial Reporting
April 14, 2023
DENVER— The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Colorado PERA for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the year ending December 31, 2021.
This is the 37th consecutive year PERA has received this prestigious award. PERA’s financial reports can be found here.
In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government plan must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized ACFR. It must satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a plan and its management.
PERA also received a GFOA Award for Outstanding Achievement for its 2021 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR), a summary of information derived from the ACFR. The PAFR has received the award for 20 consecutive years. According to GFOA, the Award represents a significant achievement by the plan. Each eligible report is reviewed by judges who evaluate the report based on the following categories: reader appeal, understandability, distribution methods, creativity and other elements.
Catherine Maninger, Colorado PERA's Director of Accounting/Controller, said, "It is an honor to be recognized as meeting the program's high standards. Communicating important financial information clearly and transparently to our stakeholders is a top priority for PERA."
Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve.
